Shibuhara Girls

MTV has just launched a new "reality show" that is based in Japan, and it's called 'Shibuhara Girls'. People are saying this is the Japanese version of 'The Hills' and I sorta agree, although I never watched 'The Hills' (but I do know what the show was about). I watched the premiere episode and found out what Shibuhara meant. I'm not that great about Japanese culture but I've always found it intriguing. I have a feeling that I'll be watching all 12 episodes just to get a dose of the Japanese culture. I will visit Japan someday (fingers crossed!), so these might come in handy :D Oh, in case you're a nut like me, Shibuhara = Shibuya + Harajuku. The show revolves around the lives of four leading girls; Sun Wei, Marie, Kozue and Shion.

Here are some facts I found on the Internet:

Kozue Akimoto
Kozue Akimoto is a fashion model who has already achieved a great deal of success since stepping onto the scene back in 2009. Of course, she’s also known for another reason, as the daughter of Chiyonofuji, who is perhaps one of the most successful sumo wrestlers of modern times. She faces the pressure of stepping out from under her father’s shadow.

Marie Ishikawa
Marie is a 22 year old native of Tokyo who is on the verge of breaking into the pop scene. She’s released a few songs but has big hopes riding on the debut album she’s currently putting together.

Shion Miyawaki
Shion Miyawaki is probably best known for her single BOY, but since her early success she’s seen her stardom fall. Originally from Nagasaki, she’s lived in Tokyo since her teenage years and currently faces the pressures of choosing between her declining career and her boyfriend.

Sun Wei
Sun Wei was born in China, but raised in Japan. She’s a successful model for the magazine Pop Sister, which has already exposed her to a giant audience. She’s also an internet hit with a very popular blog and over 8,000 followers on her Twitter account. However, despite her legion of growing fans, Sun Wei is still single and looking.

Although I don't understand Japanese, I can easily watch the show because of the subtitles. What keeps my eyes glued to the TV screen is the fact that the girls are super stylish and pretty. My favourites are the models, Sun Wei and Kozue. It's too early to tell who is THE favourite but I have a feeling it's going to be Sun Wei. Because she's Chinese and I thought it was really interesting to watch a Chinese who is so Japanese. You know, given the history between two countries.

It's also interesting to watch the possible rivalry between Marie and Shion, who are both managed by the same company. Record labels in Japan operate in a very distinct manner and it would be great to get a better look into how artistes are managed through this show. But it seems Marie is leading the race as the show's title song is sung by her. Poor Shion just can't catch a break.

Here's a teaser and hopefully you will be piqued to watch the show too.

p/s: Dammit if I get addicted and the show ends after just 12 episodes, what am I going to do? Will MTV launch Season 2 for the show? Ughhh

Movies I want to watch this year

1. Alice in Wonderland

2. Sherlock Holmes

3. New York, I love you

4. Dear John

5. Shutter Island

6. The Runaways - still considering (would love to catch teenage Dakota Fanning but dread watching Kristen Stewart as a lead)

7. Valentine's Day

Living in sin is the new thing

I need to distant myself from any shoe-shopping activity for at least a few months from now. Totally busted my budget this month. Now imagine how it would have been if I had found out about the L'oreal Warehouse Sale earlier. I would so totally be eating grass during lunch time at work for the rest of 2009.

Been dragging Mr. Bun around shopping malls on my search for the perfect pair of booties. I saw this pair on the Charles & Keith website months ago and they have finally reached our shores. They're super fabulous but I decided against buying them because I know realistically that they're pretty hard to match with the clothes I have in my wardrobe. And what if I run into someone else who's wearing the exact same pair of shoes??! That would be pretty damn obvious at one look. So I'll just keep them in my thoughts, instead of my shoe cabinet.

I was dumb enough to think that I'll never find any other great pair of booties, so I settled with this black pair of Oxfords.

Just imagine the shock and horror I experienced when I walked into this Japanese-y fashion store and found this sexy pair! They were haunting me in my dreams and I had to go back the next day and buy them. I'm now a happy (and broke) girl.

Not forgetting the pink flip-flops I've been wanting for the longest time. I kinda ruined them by ripping off the label from the straps but nobody's going to notice anyway.

..............................................................................................................................................

On the fateful day of me not knowing about the L'oreal Warehouse Sale, I went to watch Ninja Assassin with Mr. Bun, Tze Chin and Ah Sao. You see, Mr. Bun had told me that he really wanted to watch 2012 and Ninja Asssassin (because he loves movies with lots of action, blood and gore) but I refused to accompany him (because I'm a selfish girlfriend). I got free tickets for 2012 from shopping at CHIC Pop but I ended up donating them as Old Man Greg's (colleague from the office) birthday gift. I finally agreed to watch Ninja Assassin because I saw a snippet of the movie while watching TV the other day and dayum, that guy is scorching hawt!!

I've always not paid attention to Rain because I thought all he could do to be famous was showing off his abs. But this movie had me going gaga over Rain. But I must say his face is still kinda fugly. It's even worse now since he lost so much weight training for the role. I'm thankful for the abs though *drools* I found a picture which showed his transformation over the months and homeboy is looking good! Check out those muscle definitions!! (Images are totally ripped off from the net)

My favourite scenes were of him half naked (obviously!), training in an apartment in Berlin. The topless scenes towards the end of the movie were not too good because of the overly disgusting battle scars. Mr. Bun had to turn over and smack me in the head whenever any Rain's topless scenes came on. I felt there weren't enough of them. Mr. Bun said Rain was topless for 80% of the entire movie and if there were more, it probably would've turned into a porno. Now, that would be something I'd like to watch.

He did train really, really hard for the role and he was saying in an interview that all he had to eat for a few months was boiled chicken breast and egg white. I guess beauty is pain. He had to give up kimchi for a few months but he's earned much fascination from girls and gayboys so was it all worth it? I say yes!!

Hey sexy, let me make it better for ya. I hereby announce Rain as Obsession of the Month!!!

Wee wang wang

I love love love this scene from a vintage Stephen Chow movie, A Chinese Odyssey. Here, he is tempting fate by challenging the Goddess of Mercy when he disrespects both the Goddess and his Sifu. The part I love absolutely love is when he starts to describe his Sifu as being an annoying housefly that just won't stop buzzing near his ears. He goes on to correct himself and say that it was an understatement, and his Sifu was in fact an army of houseflies. More hilarity ensued when he goes into detail about how he's like to rip out his Sifu's intestines and wrap 'em around the neck.

I always quote this scene whenever I meet someone who is even half as annoying as the Sifu. The difference now is that I can finally perfect my lines and annoy some people along the process. LOL!

Anyone else who misses the good ol' slapshtick humour from Mr. Chow?

tonight tonight

I'm ready to be blown away. For those "film critics" who think this movie is bad, perhaps you should've spent your precious RM10 and 2.5 hours watching The Queen or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button instead. It ain't a movie with much depth, but who cares? Everyone's happy as long as the effects are awesome and Megan Fox is given so much screen time prancing around in her tighties. The movie is gonna be all about her and I ain't complaining. She brings out the wolf in every dick and butch in every pussy.

We Need More Happyness

I didn't realize the word was spelled with a 'Y' until Will Smith pointed it out. This movie really made it clear that we're all very, very fortunate beings really. But yet we complain so much about what we can't have in life. Try putting ourselves in Chris' shoes... I bet none of us has even half the determination and strength that he had. But yet again, he's really lucky to not suffer from broken bones after getting knocked down by a car or suffer from malnutrition. Broke my heart to watch the scene when they had to sleep in the train station's men's toilet. I was thinking about how I'd feel if I had my son in my arms when all he had were toilet paper as bedsheet. I be such a failure as a father. It's a good thing Christopher's such a good kid. And the closing scene was it. Will Smith just brings you to tears. I had mine brimming with tears when I saw Chris' red and brimming with tears too. This movie is a tearjerker but most importantly, it's a reminder that we should be more thankful about the little good things we have in life and be strong when we face difficulties. Thank you, Will Smith.

Sam's Happy Time!

Four words: Fucking excellent. Must watch!

So good that you'll leave the cinema thinking that these robots really do exist. Mr. Michael Bay, can I call you Mike? Look Mike, you just nailed it. Killed it! The CGI's were more than perfect, the jokes were funny and you made bumblebee look like a little sad puppy when it got caught. It's just a robot for god's sake but I was actually afraid of it getting hurt. Really! Mike... You're just super cool, you know? But no thanks to making my boyfriend thinking that his car would actually transform into a robot. Anyway people, please go and watch it. You know I don't lie about these things. It was so good that the people in my cinema hall clapped their hands after the show ended. So drama la these fuckers...

Doesn't smell too good

I thought it was supposed to be a damn good movie. It actually was... For one-third of it!! The ending really puts me off. I mean, if the script writer is suffering from a writer's block, then take some time off to get inspired. Don't give us movie-goers some shitty piece of work. Thank God I watched it with Mr. Bun. Less pissed off from all the cuddling.

On another note, I found this really funny video from Perez's webbie. Poor kid. He's gonna grow up being laughed at for this. Or become a really famous gay instead.

Let's Ride

I fucking love Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider. He is so damn sexy. Balding or not in real life... I DON'T care. He's soooooo delicious. I watched it at BTS with Eric and Yong this evening. We missed 45 minutes of the show because of some assholes and bought tickets to watch it again on the midnight show. And I loved every second of it!! Poor guys had to bear with me squeal in delight when Nic Cage went topless for a scene *drools*

I HATE ALICE KIM

History comes alive

Everyone MUST watch this!! It's such a good comedy film. At first I thought only the good comedy actors like Ben Stiller and Robin Williams were in it. Was surprised to see Owen Wilson... At the size of a tiny figurine. This movie puts the word "fun" into history. It really does. Loved the whole Jedediah vs. Octavia thing. They look like a pair of tiny loving gay couple by the end of the movie.

There's this quote from wax mannequin Teddy Roosevelt which I really liked. Teddy was trying to convince Larry to fight against the problems of his job, and said...

"I'm made of wax, Larry. What are you made of?"

Deep, wise words from a wax mannequin of a great leader indeed.

Bor-ing... NOT!!

Now I see what all the fuss is about. Damn hillarious... Only if you can stand all the obscenities and degrading jokes. But Borat's mostly making fun of Americans, so what the hell do I care?

P/S: Deb, he made fun of iPod Mini too :p

Thank God she's not my mom

Brilliant movie! What can I say? Samuel L. Jackson + Julianne Moore... There's no doubt about it being a great watch.

Kinda reminds me of the Susan Smith case, where the lady accuses a black male of killing her children, when in fact she did it. Another example of how sick the society can be. But it was heartwarming to watch the people working together, trying to help find the kid. Keeps the balance in check.

I just hope every child in the world gets sane parents... Mine probably tried their best to be. Not bad lah.

This is disturbing

I had wanted to watch this just 'cause of its plot outline. I thought a movie based on real life stories would be a break from the usual staples I have. Never expected it to be so shocking... So disturbing. It's not entirely disturbing from the beginning to the end, but when some scenes get horrid, it made me squirm in my seat. To make things worse, I was already having a gastric attack while watching.

When the movie just started, I didn't recognize Laura Prepon. Right before she spoke her first lines, I realized she was the girl from 'That's 70's Show'. She looked so different with blonde hair and weight loss. But when she started to talk, the deep, husky voice was unmistakable.

You think your marriage is on the rocks? You should take a look at these crazy people. Seriously disturbed individuals, perfectly paired together. One is a serial rapist, and another is in love with him. How mentally sick can they get? They make all the odd couples in the world suddenly seem so normal.

Googled about the characters in the movie, and found out that the story's actually much more elaborate than what was featured in the movie. But the essentials were captured on celluloid. You'd still be able to tell how mentally disturbed these people are.

There's a point where Bernando was looking very much like a Kurt Cobain wannabe. I was wondering what the stylists were thinking about. The best bit? Check put pre-Superman Brandon Routh. You'd most likely not miss his appearance. It's kinda funny to see him like that though. This movie came just a little while before Superman Returns. So it doesn't do Routh much justice.

If you have to ask, I'd say it's a pretty challenging movie to watch. Makes you wonder about the sickos of the society, and how vulnerable victims become. Why girls need to walk around with pepper sprays or alarms in their hands, why kids need curfews and why we shouldn't travel alone, especially at night. Sad world we live in, isn't it?

The Chaos theory. Hmmm... Sounds interesting. Why didn't they ever teach us things like this while in school? Would've been more beneficial than having to sit through 2 torturing hours of Advanced Communication Theory classes. I wouldn't be wrong to say it's not the subject's fault. It's whoever's attempting to teach it.

Anyhoo, won't be saying too much about the movie, lest I spoil it for those who'd wanna watch. The best bit comes after finding out who the real baddie was. And as always, with all the man candy, my mind drifts to a faraway land even while watching. A land where Jason StatHAM is mine... All mine. Mmm... I'd like a piece of that juicy meat. Ryan Phillippe is not too bad either, but he looks like such a puss standing next to Jason Statham. They look like they'd make a cute gay couple. Ryan could be Jason's bitch. So do I wanna be Ryan then? No. I want them both as my biatches. Heheh...

Beautiful Mythical Creature

Watched 'Eragon' with Kuan Yee yesterday... And I want my own dragon. So I can feed her with fat ass rats, and then ride her into the skies. Can ask her to burn my enemies to crisp flakes as well. What should I name my dragon? I know... Pink monster!! Nah... That's probably a bad idea.

Femalehood

Only have one question after watching this movie:
Greek bikers no need to wear helmet wan ah?

Anyhoo, I'm sure every girl (and gays) who have watched this would have a favourite character or would want to be like one of them. Well me, I wanna be Bridget. Ooh... With that smoking hot bod and long, straight blonde hair. Why wouldn't I wanna? But it's not really about the physical... I wish I had that kinda confidence, that kinda charm to get any cute guy I wanted. But of course I don't have all that since I'm not a smoking hot blonde. I can try to have a hot bod by hula-hooping for an hour while watching it. Actually I did. I have to make myself do it everyday. Gotta work those flabs off. Bye-bye flabbies... Geez... Our minds are screwed up with all the amount of estrogen and progesterone we have. My hormones are still raging like a bull after all these years past puberty and I'm still crazy. And in 30 years time, there's menopause. I'm already pitying the guy who's spending the rest of his life with me. If I can find him...

This is so in my favourite movies list

Movie: Scoop

Cast: Woody Allen, Hugh Jackamn, Scarlett Johansson, Ian McShane

I was not familiar with Woody Allen, and I totally didn't expect him to have such great sense of humour. Now I'm gonna pay more attention to this old guy's movies. This movie kept me laughing from the beginning, right 'til the end. Hillarious to the core.

It tells a story of how Allen's and Johansson's characters, Sidney and Sondra try to investigate Jackman's character, Peter. McShane's character, a dead journalist named Strombel literally had to get a scoop on a breaking news from the grave. Check out the whole Jack the Ripper thing. He connected with Sondra, 'cause she was a journalism student, but a hapless one. Nevertheless, Sondra was ambitious and dwelved into the investigations, with the help of Sidney. My favourite quotes from the movie came from the funny duo, right before they started their adventure. They were arguing about how to devise the perfect plan:

Sidney: We gotta put our heads together.

Sondra: If we put our heads together, you'll hear a hollow noise.

Hugh Jackman was looking delicious. He may play the part of a serial killer, but he was such a charm. He'd kill me with his looks anytime *drools* In the scene where he pushed Sondra into the private lake, I was fantasizing of him and me in that boat. Ooohh... How lovely to make out with Hugh Jackman on a boat, in the middle of a private lake.

Dirty thoughts aside... This is one helluva movie. Two thumbs up!
